Sri O. N. V. Kurup
Sruthi was inaugurated by Sri O. N. V. Kurup, one of the greatest contemporary Indian poets. His poetry has encompassed all topics relating to humanity, embedding itself in everyday life for the Malayali. His work also played a significant historic role in defining the socio-political structure of Kerala. As a distinguished poet, orator, scholar and academic, O. N. V. 's efforts to nurture and reinvigorate the Malayalam language, literature, and culture, are unparalleled
Programme of Events
- An Audience with ONV: An opportunity to reflect on Sri O. N. V. Kurup’s illustrious career and his vibrant poetry, with the poet reciting some of his most famous works.
- “Panchabana”-Thiruvathirakkali: A very traditional dance form of Kerala, consisting of slow but elegant and graceful movements. Choreographed by Dr. Mayadevi Kurup
- Thiranottam: Conceptualised by Dr. Sethu Wariyar and performed by the talented children of Sruthi. This was a brilliant spectacle of a series of musical tableaux taking us through the glorious and religious past of India.
- Bharathanatyam: Presented by Dr. Mayadevi Kurup, this item “Navarasapadam” depicts events in the life of Lord Shiva, giving importance to Abhinaya and the nine “Rasas”.
- Suddhamaddalam: Drama written by the famous playwright Sri N. N. Pillai. It looks satirically at and life and death and contains some hilarious moments.
- Mohiniyattam: Panimathimukhi Bale- The lasya rich dance of Kerala, performed by Dr. Anitha Sethumadhavan. The lonely and love-struck heroine tells her friend about her first meeting with her lover.
- Music: Sruthi’s singers presented a selection of ONV’s many lyrical masterpieces.
